Production Design

Over the past three years at Humber, I have had the pleasure of production designing two short films, with another two independent productions coming soon.

Production Design is about making a director's vision come to life. On "Fresh Catch" I was tasked with creating a small studio into a high-class restaurant. After many meetings with my director, and director of photography, I created mood-boards, floor plans, and a lookbook and sourced everything for this short, and the result was amazing. For this short, I really tried my hardest to make the environment as detailed as I could. From designing the menu to the character's costumes and even what would be hung up on the walls. I did my best to make the script come to life in a visual medium, and the reward - the finished product - meant everything to me.

My first independent short-film "Weekending" was one that I shot, edited and Production Designed for this past summer. For Weekending I wanted to transform my script to a visual medium again by adding in small detailed props, things in the background that would make the set pop and look more lively on camera. The challenge for me here was going into an already staged house, and having to take out all brands visible and keep the layout of the house similar while keeping in mind actor blocking. I think it turned out amazing, and it was the most fun I have had as a Production Designer so far. Food was an amazing thing to set dec, and by making a real dish in one scene it brought everything to life and added to the tension of the film.
